Garage door opener repair means fixing the motor, remote, sensors or wall control that lift and lower your door, without replacing the whole opener when a smaller fix will do. Desert Lily repairs openers in Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, Indian Wells, La Quinta and Cathedral City, and we answer the phone 24/7.

Garage Door Opener Repair: What Each Symptom Points To
- The wall button works, the remote does not. Try a fresh remote battery first, then ask us to pair the remote again.
- The door closes, then reverses. Wipe both sensor lenses near the floor and check that each light glows steady. A dirty or bumped sensor is the usual cause.
- The motor hums, yet the door hardly rises. Suspect a broken spring before you blame the opener. See spring repair.
- The door stops partway or acts oddly after a power cut. The saved travel settings may need a reset.
- Nothing happens at all. Check the plug and the outlet, then call us to test the motor and its control board.
What Desert Heat Does to an Opener
The motor hangs from the ceiling, where garage air is warmest. Heat can weaken remote batteries, dry out grease on moving parts and age the plastic gears inside the unit. The National Weather Service reports that the Palm Springs airport station averaged a daily high of 109.5°F in July 2026, with all 31 days at 90°F or higher. A slow or noisy opener in June is worth a call before it quits in July.
How We Repair an Opener
We begin at the wall control and the power supply, then test the sensors and the travel settings. We also check the balance of the door, since an opener cannot make up for a worn spring. If the fault is a lift cable or a bent rail, we point you to cable repair or track repair.
When the motor itself is failing, we say so and quote opener installation on site, and you decide. A stuck door at night is a job for emergency garage door repair, and general door problems go to garage door repair.

Opener Repair Questions
Why does my door bounce back up after it touches the floor?
Two small sensors near the floor watch the doorway. If one lens is dirty or knocked out of line, the door reverses. Wipe both lenses and check for a steady light on each. If the door still reverses, book opener repair.
Can you repair my opener, or do I need a new one?
We test the unit first. Many faults sit in a remote, a sensor, a wall control or a saved setting, and those are repairs. If the motor itself is failing, we say so and quote a new opener on site.
The motor runs but the door is hard to lift. Is it the opener?
Often it is not. A broken or worn spring leaves the door heavy, and the opener strains against it. Leave the door alone and call us, because the spring may be the part to replace.
Why does my remote work only up close?
A weak battery is the first thing to check, and heat can wear batteries down faster. Try a new one. If the range is still short, ask us to test the remote and the receiver on the opener during opener repair.
