Wind and Dust: How Desert Tracks Get Bent
A door left partly open can catch wind and lean on its rails. The National Weather Service logged a top gust of 35 mph at the Palm Springs airport station in July 2026, from the northwest. A rail that is already loose or dented gives way first.
Fine dust also settles inside the rail, where the rollers ride. A dry wipe keeps it clear. Skip heavy grease in the rail, because grease holds dust and builds into paste.
What Happens on a Track Call
We secure the door so it cannot drop, then check both rails for bends, gaps and loose brackets. We make sure the two rails sit level and straight with each other, because a pair that is out of line pinches the rollers. A bend that can be straightened is straightened. A creased rail is replaced.
